Tattoos and Piercings
Gabii Wescott 10/26/11
People all over the word now seem to be modifying there body's with tattoos and piercings. In some community's its looked down upon, but in others its looked at as enhancing ones beauty. Tattoos and piercings seem to becoming more marketable industry, and wanted more and more everyday. The thought of this astonishes me and interest me to go deeper into the topic.
There are many diff rent subtopics you can address when touching on this topic, but i plan on addressing the ten that i feel are most important. The first subtopic i would like to discus is the Trend aspect and how its becoming more of a fashion statement to have tattoos and piercings.Next subtopic is Tattoo guns, the different types, and how they have evolved over time. Also What jewelry to use, when you first get pierced, when your piercings are healed, and whats best for avoiding infection. As well as Creditable shops, doing your research before you go in, how to tell if a shops sanity, and if the workers have been certified. I feel that its important to look into the History because it has been around for so long. Tattoo removal proses, the different types, scars, and pain levels. The Different styles of tattoos and where you can get them. Different types of piercings, what they car called and where they are. How to get certified, how long does it take, qualifications needed. Final the Health risks, what can happen if it goes wrong.
I feel that the subtopics i have found are Strong, and that i can learn allot from doing this paper. I also feel that it will help me a lot in the future if i ever diside to get into this trait.

I was raised outside of Aspen in the Roaring Fork valley, a place of great privilege and natural beauty. It is a place where many people have a strong sense of style and fashion, a commitment to health and a stronger commitment to community and the world in which their community exists.
I also spend a great deal of time in the Twin Cities where my mother lives. There, I became exposed to a strong sense of culture and diversity. I also discovered The Aveda Institute while being in the Twin Cities, and found I had a strong connection to the schools energy and teaching methods.
Since I was in 6th grade, I have dreamed of becoming a cosmetologist and opening a spa or salon. Aveda has always been the place where I wanted to be trained to learn the skills necessary to excel at my chosen profession.
I am a very artistic person. To me, cosmetology is a living art. It offers an opportunity to express a person’s creativity in a way that helps people feel better about themselves and look their best. I also have a strong commitment to helping people. Learning about massage is an opportunity to become skilled at a healing art that makes people feel better.
I have always had a strong commitment to my community and tried to connect it to my interests. I have work on a youth radio show at my local NPR station. I have worked a nonprofit thrift store since I was 14, that supports wellness education. I have volunteered annually at the local Arts Council major fundraiser, “Green is the New Black,” a fashion show of sustainable textiles assisting in hair and make-up. I have interned at a local hair salon. I have also Interned for a non profit tv station in St Paul; there I produced and directed a documentary about the challenges of LGBT youth, as I had several friends who had struggled with these issues.
What excites me most about Aveda is its commitment to using natural recyclable product and its commitment to giving back to the community while teaching the fundamental skill so student can obtain a license to practice their crafts. I am excited at the opportunity to finally realize my dream.

My name Is Gabrielle Anastasia Wescott-Shamis and my current dream is to attend art and design school. I moved to the Twin Cities in June 2010, from Carbondale, Colorado on pursuit of making my dreams come true. I am an extremely motivated person and love to express myself as much as possible in many different ways, including: photography, filmmaking, radio shows, drawing, painting, hair, makeup and modeling. I have had a great passion to do anything artistic for as long as I can remember. I have participated in many art-related classes and activities, and I simply adore doing anything that is arts-focused.
I made the decision to move to the Twin Cities knowing it would be the best choice to make if i wanted to pursue my post-secondary career goals in the arts. I would be so grateful to have the opportunity to attend your college, and believe you would be extremely satisfied with my motivation to give 100% towards anything I am asked or expected to do.
There are many things that excite me about art and design school, but a few things in particular come to mind when I think about my goals. The first is that art school will help me come out of my comfort zone artistically because I will have to learn and create types of art that I am not used to doing. The second reason I can think of is that going to art school will help me work on my tattoo art skills. Finally, it will open new doors and experiences so that I can accomplish new things in life.
I hold very high expectations and goals for myself and have a very unique answer for the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When I grow up, I want to be an entrepreneur. I also I want to make peoples’ days as well as their dreams come true. My goals are to attend art school to get my basic art skills down, so that I can then apprentice at a tattoo and piercing parlor and get my tattoo and piercing certification. Once I have completed this, I would like to attend the Aveda Institute to get my degree in cosmetology. I also plan to get a business degree through an online program. Once I have accomplish all of these goals, you may wonder what I plan on doing with all that I’ve learned. I plan on opening up my own tattoo and piercing parlor that doubles as an alternative hair salon with reasonable prices, because I believe that this is a sophisticated new idea that no one has done before.
The College of Visual Art will help me achieve my goals in many ways. By attending CVA, I am confident that I will learn the skills I need as an artist. I will also learn the skills I need to design the space for my business as being artistic and sophisticated. That is why I would love to have the opportunity to attend The College Of Visual Arts.
